KPK: Silmy Karim Received Rp 100 Million Per Week Related to Foreigner Stay Permit Processing

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has uncovered the role of the inactive Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim (SK), in an alleged extortion case involving stay permits for foreign nationals (WNA) at the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services between 2022 and 2026. The KPK stated that Silmy Karim is suspected of conducting extortion by ‘requesting a share’ from the processing of foreign national stay permits.

This was revealed by the Chairman of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto, during a press conference on Thursday (4/6/2026). Setyo stated that these actions were carried out by Silmy Karim while he served as the Director General of Immigration from 2023 to 2024.

Silmy is alleged to have ‘requested a share’ from the processing of foreign national stay permits through the Director of Stay Permits at the Ministry of Immigration, Jaya Saputra (JS), who currently serves as the Regional Head of Immigration for West Java. Following the extortion orders, Jaya allegedly instructed Bagus Bramantyo (Bags) and Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS), both Sub-Directors within the Directorate of Stay Permits, to collect ‘extra fees’ from foreign nationals.
