KPK: Silmy Karim Received Money for Immigration Document Processing While Serving as Director General
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary (Wamen Imipas), Silmy Karim, as a suspect in a bribery case related to immigration document processing.
The KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo, revealed that Silmy Karim’s alleged involvement in this case occurred while he was serving as Director General of Immigration.
“Yes, among other things, because the alleged flow of command or the flow of money occurred when he was serving as Director General,” said Budi to reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
In addition to Silmy, the KPK has also named seven other individuals as suspects. All eight suspects are currently being detained by the KPK for 20 days.
“SK, along with seven other individuals, are suspects,” explained Budi.
Previously, it was reported that on June 3, 2026, the KPK confirmed that it had conducted a sting operation at the West Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office. This operation was the 11th sting operation conducted by the KPK in 2026.
Furthermore, the operation was related to the alleged processing of foreign nationals’ residence permits, namely the Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP) and Limited Stay Permit (KITAS).
During the operation, which took place from June 2-3, 2026, the KPK arrested 17 people, consisting of eight state officials or civil servants, and nine private individuals who acted as intermediaries in the processing of immigration documents.
Some of the 17 individuals include the Head of the West Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office, Ronald Arman Abdullah, the Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra, who previously served as Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status from November 2024 to October 2025, and the Acting Director General of Immigration from October 2024 to April 2025, Saffar Muhammad Godam.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary, Silmy Karim, surrendered himself to the KPK on June 3, 2026.
