KPK: Silmy Karim Received Bribes in Connection with Processing Permits for Foreign Nationals

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Deputy Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary, Silmy Karim, as a suspect in a case involving alleged extortion in the processing of immigration documents and the receipt of gratification in the processing of permits for foreign nationals. Silmy is not the only suspect; seven other officials, former officials, and staff from the Directorate General of Immigration have also been named as suspects.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that Silmy’s status as a suspect is linked to his previous position as Director General of Immigration. Silmy was appointed as Director General on January 4, 2023, and subsequently appointed as Deputy Minister on October 21, 2024.

“Among other things, this is because the alleged flow of commands or the flow of money occurred while he was serving as Director General,” Budi told reporters at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Thursday (June 4, 2026) morning.

He also assured that the KPK will investigate the period during which the illegal acts were committed by the suspects, including Silmy.

On that occasion, Budi explained that eight of the suspects were immediately detained for the first 20 days. The other 10 were released and designated as witnesses.

“In this case, the charges are under Article 12 E related to alleged corruption in the processing of immigration documents, as well as Article 12B, which covers other forms of acceptance or gratification,” said Budi.

Here are the seven officials, former officials, and other staff who have also been implicated by the KPK:

  1. Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Godam

  2. Head of the Immigration Office for Central Jakarta for the 2024-2025 period and Head of the Immigration Office for West Jakarta for the 2025-2026 period, Ronald Amran Abdullah

  3. Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java, who previously served as Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status at the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra.

  4. Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Transfer of Residence Permits at the Directorate of Residence Permits and Immigration Status of the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji

  5. Head of Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo
