KPK set to detain two suspects in hajj quota corruption case

The KPK is ready to detain two suspects in the alleged 2023-2024 hajj quota corruption case shortly, according to Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Monday. He said the suspects to be detained are Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham and former Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Association (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba. “Perhaps this week or next week, God willing, the detention will take place,” he said. “It relates to the sufficiency of evidence, as we must thoroughly prepare the evidence,” he added. Asep added that detention has a specific time limit, so investigators need to ensure all evidence is adequately collected. “If detention is carried out, it is time-bound. So we first gather the evidence. Once complete, we will proceed with the forced detention,” he said. Previously, the KPK began investigating the alleged corruption of Indonesia’s 2023-2024 hajj quota on 9 August 2025. Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of Maktour hajj agency, was not named as a suspect despite being barred from travelling abroad. The KPK received an Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) audit report on 27 February 2026, stating state losses of Rp622 billion in the case. The KPK previously changed Yaqut’s detention status to house arrest on 19 March 2026 following family requests, but re-detained him at the KPK detention facility on 24 March 2026. On 30 March 2026, the KPK named two new suspects: Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham and former Kesthuri Chairman Asrul Aziz Taba.
