The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced that it has issued a summons for examination to former Religion Minister (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) as a suspect in a hajj quota case. The summons was sent to Yaqut last week.

“When will he be summoned? The summons was issued last week for this week,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Prosecution and Execution at the KPK, to journalists at KPK headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

However, Asep did not specify the exact time for Yaqut’s questioning. Nevertheless, Asep hinted that the summons would be carried out towards the end of the week.

“We’ll wait and see, towards the end of the week. Thursday is part of the end of the week,” Asep said.

Judge Rejects Yaqut’s Pre-Trial Hearing

Previously, a judge rejected Yaqut Cholil Qoumas’s pre-trial hearing request regarding his suspect status in the hajj quota corruption case. The judge declared Yaqut’s suspect status valid.

“The court rejects the pre-trial hearing request from the Petitioner in entirety,” said presiding judge Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro when reading the decision in pre-trial case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (11 March).

The judge stated that the KPK’s designation of Yaqut as a suspect complied with applicable procedures and regulations. The judge stated that the scope of pre-trial review only encompasses formal aspects.

“The court orders the Petitioner to bear case costs in the amount of zero,” the judge stated.

The KPK subsequently discussed the possibility of detaining Yaqut. Asep then discussed the likelihood of the KPK detaining Yaqut as a suspect. He stated that the KPK would not delay in detaining a suspect.

“If the considerations are appropriate, of course we will detain, we will not procrastinate. So it is not because of any issues, there are no issues. Naturally we will examine how the process unfolds,” he said.
