Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized jewellery and cash in rupiah and foreign currency during a search of the residence of former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim, a suspect in an alleged extortion case within the Directorate General of Immigration. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated on Friday that the seized foreign currency included US dollars, euros, and Japanese yen. “The evidence seized is suspected to be linked to or obtained from the alleged criminal act of corruption involving extortion committed by the suspect in relation to the processing of temporary residence permits for foreign nationals,” Budi said. During the search, investigators also seized two sports cars, ten two-wheeled vehicles, including a Vespa and large motorcycles, as well as seven bicycles. Based on monitoring by Antara news agency at Silmy’s residence in the Kebayoran Baru area of South Jakarta, investigators were seen transporting two Harley Davidson motorcycles, one Ducati, and two Porsche vehicles. The items were removed after investigators conducted a search lasting five hours, which began at 1:46 PM local time.
