Jakarta, VIVA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized Rp95 million in cash and documents during searches at four locations on 17 April 2026, related to the investigation of an alleged extortion case implicating inactive Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo. “Investigators secured Rp95 million in cash during the search at the Tulungagung Regency Secretariat Office,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday, 17 April 2026. Meanwhile, Budi explained that the KPK seized a number of documents from the Tulungagung Regency Secretariat Office, the Tulungagung Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, the Tulungagung Regional Finance and Asset Management Agency, as well as the private home and family residence of Gatut Sunu located in Surabaya, East Java. The documents are said to be related to procurement and budgeting within the Tulungagung Regency Government. “Investigators will subsequently extract and analyse every piece of evidence secured in this series of search activities,” he said. Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) in Tulungagung, East Java, on Friday (10/4). The KPK arrested 18 people in that OTT, including Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his younger brother, who is also a member of the Tulungagung Regency DPRD, Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro. A day later, on 11 April 2026, the KPK brought Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his brother along with 11 others to Jakarta for intensive examination. On the same date, the KPK named Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW) and Dwi Yoga Ambal (YOG), his aide, as suspects in the alleged extortion and other receipt case within the Tulungagung Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The KPK suspects Gatut Sunu of extorting regional apparatus officials in the Tulungagung Regency Government using the method of resignation letters from positions and civil servant status. Those letters had already been signed and stamped with official seals but not yet dated. Using this method, the KPK suspects Gatut Sunu obtained up to Rp2.7 billion from a target of Rp5 billion from 16 heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD) within the Tulungagung Regency Government.
