KPK Seizes Rp21.2 Billion in Assets from Sukoharjo Regent Sting Operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized evidence worth Rp21.2 billion from a sting operation involving Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani. The haul includes Rp6.4 billion in cash, foreign currency worth approximately Rp7.5 billion, and precious metals valued at Rp7.3 billion, consisting of 25 gold bars weighing 100 grams each.

KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu stated that during the operation on Thursday, 18 individuals were initially detained across three areas: Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, and Surakarta. Following initial questioning at the Surakarta Police Station, nine people were taken to the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta for further investigation.

Based on sufficient preliminary evidence, the KPK elevated the case to an investigation and named three suspects. They are Etik Suryani, the Regent of Sukoharjo; Richard Tri Handoko, the Head of the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD); and Tri Mulyo, the Regent’s trusted aide and Head of General Affairs at the Regional Secretariat. The suspects are charged under Article 12 letter e or Article 12 letter f and Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.
