The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized a number of vehicles after searching the residence of former Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections for the 2025-2026 period, Silmy Karim, in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Friday evening (5/6). KPK investigators took approximately five hours to search for evidence allegedly linked to a case of extortion relating to foreign nationals’ residence permits and the receipt of gratuities between 2022 and 2026. Based on observations at the scene, a tow truck was seen carrying several vehicles covered with black cloth. A tow truck behind it transported two Harley-Davidson motorcycles, one Ducati motorcycle, and several bicycles. In addition, two luxury cars, a red Porsche and a silver Porsche, were also taken away. Shortly after, vehicles carrying KPK investigators and a company of heavily armed Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) officers left Silmy’s residence. The KPK has named eight individuals as suspects in the alleged extortion case related to foreign nationals’ residence permits and the receipt of gratuities within the Directorate General of Immigration between 2022 and 2026. They are Silmy Karim; Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam; Director of Residence Permits, Jaya Saputra; Sub-Directorate Heads at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo and Tessar Bayu Setyaji; Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office for 2024-2025 and Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah; Head of the Limited Stay Permit Status Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi; and Staff of the Residence Permit Sub-Directorate, Gusti Bernardiansyah. They have been detained for an initial 20-day period from 4 June to 23 June 2026 at the KPK Detention Centre, Branch C1, and the Merah Putih Building. The suspects are charged with violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of the Law on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. This case of alleged extortion relating to foreign nationals’ residence permits and the receipt of gratuities within the Directorate General of Immigration from 2022 to 2026 was uncovered by the KPK through a sting operation conducted in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali on 2-3 June 2026.
