KPK seizes hundreds of millions of rupiah in sting operation against Langkat Regent over project bribes

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah in a sting operation (OTT) against Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, in connection with alleged project bribery. “The team also secured evidence, including cash worth hundreds of millions of rupiah suspected to be part of a project fee given by a private party to the Regent,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Friday. He stated that the alleged bribery is linked to projects within the Langkat Regency Education Agency and the Langkat Regency Housing and Settlement Agency (Perkim). “We will certainly investigate and trace whether there were other receipts or gratuities accepted by the Regent or other state officials in the Langkat area,” he said. Previously, on Thursday (3/7), the KPK confirmed it had conducted an OTT against Langkat Regent Syah Afandin. Six individuals were detained, consisting of a civil servant (ASN) from Langkat Regency and five people from the private sector. In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has a maximum of 1 x 24 hours from the time of arrest to determine the legal status of the parties detained in the OTT.
