KPK Seizes Four Pairs of Louis Vuitton Shoes Worth Rp 129 Million from Tulungagung Regent
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized four pairs of Louis Vuitton shoes in a sting operation (OTT) that ensnared Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo on Friday (10/4/2026).
“Four pairs of shoes, where these four pairs of shoes are reported to be worth Rp 129 million,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo during a press conference at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Saturday (11/4/2026).
In addition to the shoes, Budi said investigators also seized cash amounting to Rp 335 million in the covert operation.
“So, on this occasion, we are displaying cash amounting to Rp 335 million,” he stated.
Officials were reportedly asked to sign statements of readiness to resign from their positions and as civil servants (ASN) if they were unable to carry out the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them.
These letters, with blank dates, are suspected to have been used as leverage against the heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD) to meet demands from the regent, including when asked for money contributions.
“Those who are not loyal to the Regent face the threat of being removed from their positions or even resigning as ASN,” said Asep.
In practice, Gatut is also alleged to have demanded money from 16 OPDs.
From these additions, he demanded up to 50 percent, even before the budget was disbursed.
The collection of this money was carried out by Gatut’s aide, Dwi Yoga Ambal, who in its execution often treated the OPDs like parties with debts.
Asep said Gatut targeted collecting up to Rp 5 billion from the OPD leaders.
The contribution amounts varied between Rp 15 million and Rp 2.8 billion.
By the time of the arrest on Friday (10/4/2026), the collected money had reached Rp 2.7 billion.
