KPK Seizes Foreign Currency Worth Around Rp983 Million in Langkat Regent Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) has seized a number of foreign currencies worth approximately Rp983 million during a sting operation (OTT) involving the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim.
“The details are 66,950 Singapore dollars and 11,518 Malaysian ringgit,” stated the Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Friday (3/7) night.
Based on the exchange rate as of 3 July 2026, the value of the foreign currency is estimated to reach around Rp983 million.
In addition to the foreign currency, the KPK seized Rp247.7 million in cash. Investigators also secured Rp100 million in cash from a former member of the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), identified by the initials SYH.
“The KPK team on the ground successfully secured Rp100 million which was found under the seat of the car occupied by SYH,” he said.
Furthermore, investigators discovered 55 pieces of metal, suspected to be platinum, with a total weight of approximately 55 kilograms inside Syah Afandin’s car.
“Regarding this evidence, we will later verify its authenticity. We will summon experts to determine whether this platinum metal is genuine,” said Taufik.
Investigators also seized several pieces of electronic evidence and documents related to the case.
On 3 July 2026, the KPK named Syah Afandin and his former 2024 regional election campaign team member, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu’arif, as suspects in an alleged bribery case involving projects within the Langkat Regency Government for the 2025–2026 period.
Syah Afandin is alleged to have received bribes amounting to Rp800 million from a total commitment of Rp1.117 billion provided by Yaqub following the award of 80 projects in 2025 to the Langkat Regency Education Office and five projects to the Langkat Regency Housing and Residential Areas Office.
In addition to the alleged bribery, the KPK suspects that Syah Afandin received gratifications amounting to up to Rp3.5 billion related to the appointment of sub-district heads (camat), positions within the Langkat Regency Education Office, the appointment of primary and junior high school principals, and the procurement of primary school uniforms.
