KPK Seizes Documents After Raiding Homes of Suspects and Sukoharjo Public Works Chief
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized a number of documents after searching the homes of suspects and the Head of the Sukoharjo Public Works and Spatial Planning Department on Thursday. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists in Jakarta that investigators had continued a series of searches at the suspects’ homes and the official’s residence, securing several documents in the process. The seizure was carried out to complete and add to the body of evidence in the case ensnaring non-active Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani. Earlier this week, the KPK also searched six locations, including the official residence of the Sukoharjo Regent, the Regent’s office, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, the Transportation Department, the Agriculture and Fisheries Department, and the Health Department. On Wednesday, searches were conducted at the Education and Culture Department, the Regional Financial, Revenue and Asset Management Agency, and the National Unity and Politics Agency. The case began with the arrest of Regent Etik Suryani and 17 others in a sting operation on 9 July 2026. On 11 July 2026, the KPK named Etik Suryani, the Head of the Sukoharjo Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency Richard Tri Handoko, and the Head of General Affairs of the Sukoharjo Regional Secretariat Tri Mulyo as suspects in an alleged extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. The KPK specifically suspects Etik Suryani of continuing a tradition established by her predecessor and husband, Wardoyo Wijaya. The alleged modus operandi involved demanding a share of levy collection fees from the regional financial agency and regular payments from regional apparatuses. The KPK suspects Etik Suryani received Rp2.93 billion in levy fees between 2021 and 2026, and Rp1.2 billion from regional apparatuses between 2022 and 2024.
