Jakarta – Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has seized a number of assets with a combined value exceeding 100 billion rupiah in connection with a hajj quota corruption case involving former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
“In this matter, the KPK has conducted asset seizures with a combined value reaching over 100 billion rupiah,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday.
Asep further stated that the seized assets, totalling the aforementioned amount, comprise 3.7 million US dollars, 22 billion rupiah in cash, 16,000 Saudi riyals, four motor vehicles, and five plots of land and buildings.
Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK announced it was commencing an investigation into an alleged corruption case concerning Indonesia’s hajj quota for 2023-2024.
On 11 August 2025, the KPK announced that initial calculations of state losses in this case had reached over 1 trillion rupiah, and issued travel bans on three individuals for up to six months. These individuals included Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA), known as Gus Alex, Yaqut’s staff member, and Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of the Maktour hajj operator agency.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced that two of the three banned individuals had become suspects in the alleged hajj quota corruption case: Yaqut and Gus Alex.
However, Yaqut filed a pre-trial motion against the establishment of him as a suspect at the South Jakarta District Court on 10 February 2026, registered under case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.
On 19 February 2026, the KPK announced an extension of the travel ban, applicable only to Yaqut and Gus Alex. Fuad’s ban was not extended.
On 27 February 2026, the KPK announced it had received an audit from the Financial Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia regarding state financial losses resulting from the hajj quota case. Subsequently, on 4 March 2026, the KPK announced that state financial losses from this case had reached 622 billion rupiah.
On 11 March 2026, the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court rejected Yaqut’s pre-trial motion.
On 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the State Detention Centre, Branch of the Red and White Building KPK.
