KPK Searches Unsoed Rectorate, Seizes Documents
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized a number of documents after searching eight houses and the Rectorate office of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that investigators seized several notes, documents, and electronic evidence during the searches. “Related to alleged entrustment and conditioning of new student admissions through the independent pathway,” Budi said in Jakarta on Monday (24/8).
KPK investigators searched nine locations on 23 and 24 August 2026. The KPK searched six houses belonging to suspects in the alleged corruption case involving Unsoed’s new student admissions on 23 August 2026. Then, on 24 August 2026, the KPK searched two houses and the Unsoed Rectorate office after previously conducting a sting operation against several parties from the Unsoed Rectorate on 20 August 2026.
A number of suspects have been named by the KPK, namely Unsoed Rector Prof Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof Norman Arie Prayogo, Head of Academic Affairs at Unsoed Eko Sumanto, Mulyono as Sodiq’s nephew, and Dian Mulia Wardhana and Adhi Wiharto as intermediaries in the alleged corruption case involving Unsoed’s new student admissions.
Norman, through Dian and Adhi, allegedly extorted up to Rp650 million from the parents of a prospective new student so that their child could enter the Faculty of Medicine. However, the child did not pass. The KPK suspects that Akhmad Sodiq asked his nephew to receive payments from prospective students’ parents and obtained Rp680 million during 2025-2026. He then purchased three plots of land in Mulyono’s name using the money. The KPK suspects that Akhmad Sodiq granted graduation approval access to Eko after the Unsoed Head of Academic Affairs received Rp1.12 billion from collectors working as teachers during 2025-2026.
The KPK detained five suspects following the sting operation related to new student admissions at Unsoed Purwokerto for the 2025-2026 academic year. The KPK named Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector Norman, and four others as suspects in the corruption case involving new student admissions. Hundreds of millions of rupiah in evidence were seized. The KPK found evidence of WhatsApp conversations between a teacher acting as a collector and Unsoed Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto. Prices for seats through the independent pathway were set at Rp50 million to Rp500 million. The KPK stated that the practice of buying and selling seats through Unsoed’s independent pathway also occurred in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science and the Faculty of Law. A total of 73 new student quotas for 2026 were taken over by the suspects. The KPK seized Rp764 million in cash related to the corruption case involving Unsoed’s new student admissions.
