KPK Searches Tulungagung Regent's Home, Seizes Documents in Alleged Extortion Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the residence of inactive Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal on Thursday (16/4). The KPK seized documents suspected to be related to the alleged extortion case and other receipts for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. “Today, investigators began a series of search activities in the Tulungagung area. The first day’s searches were conducted at three locations: the regent’s official residence, the private home of Mr GSW, and the home of Mr YOG,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Thursday (16/4). “During the searches, several documents were found, including a statement of resignation from another OPD (Regional Device Organisation) head that was made without a date,” he continued. Budi explained that the resignation letter is suspected to have been used by Gatut as a ‘pressure tool’ against OPD officials to ensure compliance with all his orders. The searches in question are essentially required by investigators to gather additional evidence needed for the investigation into the alleged extortion case in Tulungagung Regency. “On this occasion, the KPK also extends its appreciation and special thanks to the people of Tulungagung who continue to support the handling of this case,” said Budi. “We will continue to update on the developments and results of the searches,” he added. The case was uncovered by the KPK through a Sting Operation (OTT) on 10 April 2026. Gatut and Yoga have already been detained in a detention centre.
