KPK Searches Three Suspects' Homes, Seizes Documents Linked to Sukoharjo Regent Extortion Case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has again searched the homes of three suspects in an extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. The searches included the residence of Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani. “Today, investigators continued a series of search activities at the suspects’ homes, as well as the home of the Head of the Sukoharjo Public Works Agency,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Thursday (16/7/2026). Budi stated that investigators secured a number of documents during the search. He said the documents are related to the extortion case implicating Regent Etik. “In this search, investigators secured several relevant documents needed to complete additional evidence in the legal process for the alleged extortion case by the Regent and others,” he said. The KPK had previously named Etik Suryani as a suspect in the extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. The KPK also named two of Etik’s subordinates as suspects. “The KPK has elevated the alleged corruption case related to extortion in the Sukoharjo Regency Government to the investigation stage and named three people as suspects,” said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference on Saturday (11/7). The three individuals named as suspects by the KPK are: 1. Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani; 2. Head of the Sukoharjo Regency Government’s Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD), Richard Tri Handoko; and 3. Head of General Affairs of the Sukoharjo Regency Regional Secretariat, Tri Mulyo. Asep alleged that Etik Suryani received illicit wage levies within the Sukoharjo BPKAD. He said Etik instructed Richard to collect approximately 40 per cent of the incentives received by a number of BPKAD employees. “The request by ETS allegedly continues the ‘tradition’ of the previous regent, who is also ETS’s husband, using the coded instructions ‘tambahan upah pungut kae ono tho?’ (there is an additional levy on wages, right?); ‘kowe mrene kan ora bayar’ (you come here without paying); ‘padakno karo Bapak’ (match it to what Father received). This means the amount of money remitted should be adjusted to the payments made during the previous regent’s tenure,” Asep revealed. The KPK investigation team is known to have searched several locations in Sukoharjo this week related to the case implicating Regent Etik. One of the points searched was Regent Etik’s office and several agency offices within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. “In this series of search activities, investigators secured evidence including a number of electronic items, documents, cash, and jewellery,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in South Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7). KPK investigators also searched Regent Etik’s home today. The house is known to be Etik’s safe house for storing 2.5 kg of gold allegedly derived from corruption proceeds.
