Kudus (ANTARA) – Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the Central Kudus Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office in Central Java as part of an expanded investigation into alleged corruption in customs and excise, following the issuance of a new investigation warrant in October 2026.

“In the course of expanding this investigation, investigators then conducted a search at the Kudus Customs office,” KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said when contacted from Kudus on Wednesday.

The KPK investigation team also searched a cigarette factory in Kudus. “The searches are still under way,” he said.

As of 4.30pm Western Indonesian Time, the KPK team was still searching the Kudus Customs and Excise office.

According to observations at the scene, a group of KPK officers arrived at the office at around 10am in five cars. The group was estimated to number dozens of officers.

Several officers wearing vests bearing the KPK name on the back were seen entering a number of rooms on the premises, including the office of the head of the Central Kudus Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office.

Some officers were also seen leaving the head’s office and heading to the service building next door.

Services and staff work continued during the search. Employees carried on with their duties, including attending the midday congregational prayer. Several members of the public and business operators were also seen arranging to collect cigarette excise stamps.

Meanwhile, members of the Kudus Police were seen on guard outside the Customs office. Police personnel and a vehicle belonging to the Kudus Police’s Samapta (public order) unit were visible in the office grounds.
