KPK Seals Unsoed Rectorate Rooms Following Sting Operation on Campus Officials
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sealed several leadership rooms on the third floor of the rectorate building at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Friday (21/8) afternoon. The move followed a sting operation involving senior university officials.
Unsoed spokesperson Edi Santoso confirmed the sealing based on reports from campus staff. The sealed rooms include the rector’s office and all vice-rectors’ offices.
‘I have not been there myself, but information from staff confirms the rooms were sealed. Reports indicate the sealing was carried out on the rector’s room and all vice-rectors’ rooms,’ Edi said, as reported by Antara on Friday (21/8).
Regarding the whereabouts of campus leaders, Edi confirmed that Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs, Prof. Noor Farid, is still on the Unsoed campus. Although he underwent questioning by KPK investigators at the Banyumas Police Headquarters on Thursday (20/8) until late evening, Noor Farid was not taken to Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Rector Prof. Akhmad Sodiq, Vice-Rector II Prof. Kuat Puji Prayitno, and Vice-Rector IV Prof. Waluyo Handoko were reported to be in Jakarta since Thursday (20/8). The university stated their presence in the capital was to fulfil official duties at the National Civil Service Agency (BKN).
Previously, the KPK confirmed the sting operation against Unsoed rectorate officials. Those detained included Rector Prof. Akhmad Sodiq, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo, and Vice-Rector for General Affairs and Finance Prof. Kuat Puji Prayitno.
To date, Unsoed has stated it has not received official information regarding the details of the case or the legal status of the officials involved. Edi emphasised that the university respects the ongoing legal process and awaits an official statement from the anti-corruption agency.
In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those caught in the sting operation.
