The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sealed the residence of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim, and several other locations in connection with a corruption case involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals in Indonesia.

“As part of a series of closed-door investigation activities, the KPK has installed KPK-line seals at several locations for future searches during the investigation stage,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, Thursday (June 4).

In addition to sealing several locations, Budi said the KPK also confiscated evidence in the form of US and Singaporean dollar currency.

However, Budi has not yet detailed the total amount of evidence confiscated in this case.

Silmy was named a suspect by the KPK in this case along with seven other suspects.

The investigators have charged Silmy and others with Article 12e in connection with alleged corruption, extortion in the processing of immigration documents, and Article 12B in connection with the acceptance of other benefits or gratuities.

The seven individuals include former Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam (SMG), and Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra (JS).

Also included are the Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Transfer of Residence Permits at the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS); the Head of the Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo (BGS); the Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office in West Jakarta for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah (RAA).

Then there is the Head of the ITAS Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi (JSP); and Staff of the Sub-Directorate of Residence Permits, Gusti Benardiansyah (GST).

The KPK said the total value of the extortion in this case reached hundreds of billions of rupiah.

However, the KPK has not yet revealed the details of the chronology and modus operandi of the extortion allegedly committed by Silmy and others, including the flow of funds received by the suspects.

“[The value of the extortion] reaches hundreds of billions,” said Budi.
