KPK Seals Rector and Vice-Rector Offices at Unsoed Following Sting Operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sealed a number of rooms in the Rectorate Building of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Purwokerto, Central Java. The move was taken following a sting operation (OTT) that allegedly involved the rector and vice-rectors of the university.

Based on observations at the location, the sealing was carried out on the third floor of the Rectorate Building, which is the university leadership area. Nevertheless, Unsoed Vice-Rector I Noor Farid, who had previously undergone questioning, was reported not to have been taken to Jakarta by investigators.

Unsoed spokesman Edi Santoso confirmed the sealing. However, he stated that the university has not yet received an official explanation from the KPK regarding the details of the case or the legal status of the parties detained.

“We have not received official information from the KPK regarding the case or the legal status of the parties detained. In principle, we respect the ongoing legal process,” Edi said when met in the courtyard of the Unsoed Rectorate Building on Friday (21/8).

Edi explained that the university has chosen not to speculate about the background of the case that triggered the sting operation. To date, campus management is still awaiting an official statement from the anti-corruption agency to determine its next steps.

“What case this concerns, and what the legal status of the parties or individuals involved is, we have not received any information because the KPK itself has not issued an official statement,” he added.

He stressed that Unsoed is committed to being cooperative and to respecting all stages of the legal process carried out by the KPK. “So we are in the dark. However, whatever it is, with the process already underway, we will of course respect all legal proceedings,” Edi asserted.

Regarding the physical condition of the Rectorate Building, Edi confirmed that access to a number of leadership rooms has been closed with KPK seals. Information gathered from internal staff indicates that the rector’s office and four vice-rectors’ offices were among those sealed.

“The rector’s and vice-rectors’ rooms, yes, all of them. That is the information, but I have not yet checked upstairs (the third floor),” he said.

Amid the uncertainty over the legal status of several university leaders, Edi confirmed that Vice-Rector I Noor Farid is currently still on the Unsoed campus. “I met him earlier,” he concluded.
