KPK Seals Office of Langkat Regent Syah Afandin
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sealed the office of Langkat Regent Syah Afandin and several other locations during a sting operation (OTT) related to alleged bribery involving projects at the Education Agency and the Public Housing and Settlement Areas Agency (Perkim) of Langkat Regency. “In this caught-in-the-act incident, for the needs of the legal process, the team has also installed KPK line seals at several locations so that later, when this is decided to proceed to the investigation stage, there will be search activities as part of the series of coercive measures,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, Friday (3/7). The sting operation took place in three locations: Langkat, Binjai, and Medan. A total of seven people were arrested. They are Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, one civil servant (ASN) from Langkat Regency, and five other individuals from the private sector. The regent was arrested at his private residence in Medan. Budi stated that the Langkat regent would be brought to Jakarta this afternoon. “This afternoon, one of them, namely the Langkat regent, will be brought to Jakarta for further examination,” he said. Budi explained that the case is suspected to be related to bribery concerning projects at the Education Agency and the Perkim Agency of Langkat Regency. “And of course, it will also be investigated and traced whether there were other receipts or gratuities made by the regent or state officials in the Langkat area,” he added.
