KPK schedules interrogation of two suspects in Hajj quota case this Monday

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled examinations for two suspects involved in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, namely Ismail Adham (ISM) and Asrul Aziz Taba (ASR).

“Today, investigators have scheduled examinations for ISM, the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), and ASR, a Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama and former General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Association (Kesthuri),” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Monday. Budi added that the anti-corruption agency has scheduled the interrogations at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta.

The KPK commenced its investigation into the alleged corruption regarding the 2023-2024 Indonesian Hajj quota on 9 August 2025. On 9 January 2026, the KPK named former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoublem and his special staff, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (also known as Gus Alex), as suspects. Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Maktour travel agency, was not named a suspect, despite previously being subject to a travel ban.

The KPK subsequently received audit results from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) on 27 February 2026, which indicated that state losses in the case reached Rp622 billion. On 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK Merah Putih Building detention centre, followed by the detention of Ishfah on 17 March 2026. Although Yaqut’s detention status was temporarily changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026 following a request from his family, he was returned to the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026. On 30 March 2026, the KPK named two new suspects: Maktour Operational Director Ismail Adham and former Kesthuri General Chairman Asrul Aziz Taba.
