KPK Schedules Examination of Former Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi's Staff Today

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled an examination of Robby Kurniawan, a staff advisor to the Minister of Transportation during the tenure of Budi Karya Sumadi and Dudy Purwagandhi, for today, Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the scheduling resulted from coordination between the anti-corruption agency’s investigators and Robby Kurniawan after he was summoned as a witness on 4 May 2026.

“The individual did not attend, but there has been coordination with the investigators, and the examination is planned to be rescheduled for Tuesday morning. So, we await the witness’s presence on Tuesday, 5 May 2026,” Budi told reporters, as reported by ANTARA.

Budi stated that KPK investigators are awaiting Robby Kurniawan’s attendance as a witness in the alleged bribery case concerning the construction and maintenance of railway lines within the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation (DJKA Kemenhub).

“We urge the witness to be cooperative in attending the summons and providing the information needed by the investigators, as the statements from each witness are certainly required,” he said.

Previously, the case came to light following a hand-catching operation (OTT) conducted by the KPK on 11 April 2023 at the Class I Railway Technical Office for Central Java Region of DJKA Kemenhub.

The Class I Railway Technical Office for Central Java Region has since been renamed the Class I Semarang Railway Technical Office.

The KPK subsequently designated 10 suspects who were immediately detained in connection with the alleged corruption case involving railway track construction and maintenance projects in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.

As of 20 January 2026, the KPK has designated and detained a total of 21 suspects. The KPK has also named two corporations as suspects in the case.

The alleged criminal corruption case pertains to projects including the construction of the double-track railway line from Solo Balapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso, railway line construction in Makassar, South Sulawesi, four railway track construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampegan Cianjur, West Java, and the repair of level crossings in Java-Sumatra.

In the construction and maintenance of these projects, it is alleged that certain parties arranged the project winners through manipulation from the administrative process to the determination of the tender winners.
