KPK Says Langkat Regent Received Rp800 Million in Project Bribes
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim (SAF), received Rp800 million from an alleged bribery scheme involving projects, out of a total agreed amount of Rp1.117 billion.
KPK Acting Director of Investigation, Achmad Taufik Husein, explained that initially, a former campaign team member for Ondim during the 2024 Regional Head Election, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu’arif (YQB), secured 80 projects within the Langkat Regency Education Office, as well as five projects within the Langkat Regency Housing and Residential Areas Office (Perkim) for 2025.
“In exchange for the work awarded to YQB, SAF requested a fee of 10 per cent from each Education Office project, and 17 per cent from the Disperkim projects,” Taufik stated at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Friday (3/7) night.
Following this, he noted, a reward of Rp990 million was agreed upon for the Langkat Education Office projects, and Rp126.8 million for the projects within the Langkat Disperkim. Consequently, he continued, Ondim was projected to receive approximately Rp1.1 billion in total.
“Up until 4 April 2026, YQB had provided money to SAF totalling Rp800 million,” he said.
He explained that the money was distributed to Ondim’s driver, identified by the initials ZK, amounting to Rp500 million via two transfers during 2025, followed by Rp150 million through an intermediary in May 2025, and another Rp150 million to ZK in April 2026. The total amount provided reached Rp800 million.
Meanwhile, Taufik stated that Ondim only requested the remaining balance of approximately Rp300 million in late June 2026.
Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) in Langkat, Binjai, and Medan, North Sumatra, on 2 July 2026.
On 3 July 2026, the KPK named Ondim and his former 2024 election campaign team member, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu’arif, as suspects in the alleged bribery case involving projects within the Langkat Regency Government for the 2025-2026 period.
