KPK Reveals Yaqut Suffers from Acute GERD and Asthma

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has a history of acute GERD and asthma.

“One of the results from the health assessment is that the individual suffers from acute GERD and has undergone endoscopy and colonoscopy,” stated Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, while providing information at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Asep said that this condition was discovered after the KPK conducted a health examination when Yaqut was about to be transferred to house arrest, which was before Thursday (19/3/2026).

“He also suffers from asthma,” Asep added.

“(Health) is just one of the requirements, in addition to other necessities, in this case, the strategy in handling this case so that it can proceed smoothly,” Asep stated.

Yaqut has returned to being a detainee at the KPK Detention Centre after previously being transferred to house arrest for several days.

This transfer is the second time for Yaqut since he was detained by the KPK on Thursday (12/3/2026).

One week later, precisely on Thursday (19/3/2026), Yaqut was transferred to house arrest upon a request from his family.

The transfer of detention status was only announced by the KPK on Saturday (21/3/2026), coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

“Today, Monday, 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Sdr. YCQ in the alleged criminal corruption case regarding Hajj quotas, from house arrest back to detention at the KPK Detention Centre,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Monday evening.

After the transfer was announced, Yaqut was not immediately taken to the KPK Detention Centre because he needed to be examined health-wise first.

Yaqut underwent a health examination at Bhayangkara Polri Hospital, East Jakarta.
