The Corruption Eradability Commission (KPK) has revealed that the suspect in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), is still undergoing recovery following surgery on 29 June 2026.

“Following the surgical procedure, the medical team at Kramat Jati Hospital (RS Polri) needs to observe the progress of Mr YCQ’s recovery,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Budi confirmed that KPK investigators are also continuously monitoring the health condition of the former Minister of Religious Affairs.

“During this period of medical detention, the KPK is also conducting strict supervision and security through prisoner escorts,” he added.

He stated that the KPK hopes Yaqut will recover quickly so that the legal process regarding the Hajj quota case can proceed effectively.

“Naturally, we all want this entire legal process to run effectively, so that we can soon provide legal certainty to the relevant parties, particularly those who have been named as suspects,” he said.

The KPK began the investigation into the alleged corruption of the 2023-2024 Indonesian Hajj quota on 9 August 2025.

Subsequently, on 9 January 2026, the KPK named former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and his former special staff, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex, as suspects.

Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Hajj organiser Maktour, was not named a suspect, although he had previously been subject to a travel ban.

The KPK later received the results of an audit from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) on 24 February 2026, which indicated potential state losses in the case amounting to Rp622 billion.

Yaqut was detained at the KPK Merah Putih Building detention centre on 12 March 2026, while Ishfah was detained five days later.

Yaqut’s detention status was briefly changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026 following a request from his family. However, he was returned to the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026.

In further developments of the case, the KPK named two new suspects on 30 March 2026, namely the Operational Director of Maktour, Ismail Adham, and the former General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Union, Asrul Aziz Taba. Both were subsequently detained on 8 June 2026.

On 24 June 2026, the KPK transferred Yaqut’s detention to the Polri Hospital after he experienced health complications related to his digestive tract.
