JAKARTA – Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Johanis Tanak has revealed six reasons that the KPK could use to take over cases from other law enforcement agencies. Tanak made the remarks in response to the possibility of the KPK taking over the corruption case implicating former Jampidsus (Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes) Febrie Adriansyah.

As of this afternoon, Febrie is undergoing questioning at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) as a suspect. Tanak explained that the takeover of an investigation and/or prosecution by the KPK could be carried out on several grounds. The first is that public reports of criminal acts of corruption are not followed up.

The second is that the handling of a corruption case proceeds without resolution, or is delayed without justifiable reason. “Third, the handling of the corruption case is aimed at protecting the actual perpetrators of the crime,” Tanak told Republika on Friday (24/7/2026).

Fourth, Tanak said a case could be taken over by the KPK if the handling of the corruption case itself contains elements of corruption. Fifth, there are obstacles in handling the corruption case due to interference from the executive, judicial, or legislative branches.

“Finally, there are other circumstances in which, in the view of the police or the prosecution service, the handling of the corruption case cannot be properly carried out in an accountable manner,” Tanak said.

Meanwhile, the KPK has assured that communication between the KPK and Kejagung remains positive in investigating the case of Febrie Adriansyah. Moreover, this falls within the KPK’s authority under Article 6 of Law No. 19 of 2019.

“Supervision has its stages, meaning we observe the mechanisms and phases that are the standard procedure the KPK must follow to conduct coordination or supervision. So we will monitor the development of the investigation at the Attorney General’s Office. The KPK certainly gives its full support,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.

Previously, Kejagung announced the names of nine investigators handling the Febrie Adriansyah case, the majority of whom previously served at the KPK before returning to the prosecution service.

Nine special prosecutors from Kejagung re-examined former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah on Friday (24/7/2026). The special team questioned Febrie in relation to the corruption and money laundering (TPPU) case in which he has been named a suspect. This was the second round of questioning.

The examination was based on a new investigation warrant (sprindik) issued by Kejagung on Monday, 20 July 2026. The new sprindik brings to four the number of investigation warrants issued by Kejagung.
