KPK Reveals Seven Sting Operations in Riau, Exposing Persistent Cycle of Corruption
The Corruption Eradability Commission (KPK) has revealed that it has conducted seven sting operations (OTT) in Riau Province since 2007. The most recent case occurred in Kuantan Singingi Regency (Kuansing), with the designation of Regent Suhardiman Amby as a suspect in an alleged bribery case.
The KPK assesses that this series of enforcement actions demonstrates that corrupt practices in Riau continue to recur despite various law enforcement efforts being undertaken for almost two decades.
Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that the sting operation in Kuansing marks the seventh enforcement action carried out by the agency in the Riau Province region.
“We wish to convey that this enforcement effort by the KPK is the seventh time in the Riau Province region,” said Taufik.
According to him, the majority of cases handled by the KPK in Riau relate to bribery practices or irregularities in the procurement of goods and services.
Beginning with the Fire Truck Procurement Case
Taufik explained that the first enforcement operation conducted by the KPK in Riau occurred in 2007. At that time, the revealed case related to alleged corruption in the procurement of fire trucks.
That case marked the beginning of a series of KPK enforcement actions against various alleged criminal acts of corruption involving state officials in the region.
Continuing from PON Cases to Land Conversion
Five years later, specifically in 2012, the KPK conducted another enforcement action related to alleged corruption in the procurement of facilities for the National Sports Week (PON).
Subsequently, in 2014, the anti-corruption agency uncovered a case of alleged bribery related to land conversion.
According to Taufik, these cases are part of a pattern of corruption that continues to recur in Riau Province.
Sting Operations Continue through 2025
The series of KPK enforcement actions continued in 2021 through a case of alleged bribery related to Land Cultivation Rights (HGU). This case subsequently expanded to involve the former Head of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) as a suspect.
Next, in 2023, the KPK conducted another enforcement action regarding an alleged budget cutting case.
Then, on 3 November 2025, the KPK conducted another sting operation related to alleged criminal acts of extortion within the Riau Provincial Government environment.
“On 3 November 2025, perhaps not far from our memory, the KPK also conducted a sting operation related to alleged extortion in the Riau Provincial Government, which is currently still in trial,” said Taufik.
