KPK Reveals Role of Riau Governor's Aide in Abdul Wahid's 'Thug's Share' Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained ADC or aide to the inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, Marjani (MJN), as a suspect in the extortion case involving Abdul Wahid (AW). In this ‘thug’s share’ case, Marjani played the role of collecting money for Abdul Wahid.
“The role of MJN was very crucial, related to the collection of money from each head of UPT, because he acted as a representative of Mr AW,” said Acting Director of Investigation at KPK Ahmad Taufik Husein during a press conference at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Monday (13/4/2026).
Taufik stated that in June 2025, the first payment from Ferry Yunanda, Secretary of the Riau Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR PKPP), collected money from UPT heads totaling Rp 1.6 billion. From that amount, on the orders of M Arief Setiawan (MAS), the head of PUPR PKPP, Ferry handed over Rp 1 billion to AW through intermediary Dani M Nursalam (DAN), a Special Staff to the Riau Governor.
“Subsequently, from the total Rp 1 billion, DAN only handed over Rp 950 million to Mr MJN, the ADC or aide to the former Riau Governor, to be used for AW’s interests,” he said.
The remaining Rp 50 million was used for Dani Nursalam’s personal interests. Not long after, Ferry Yunanda also gave Rp 600 million to a relative of Arief Setiawan.
Previously, KPK named new suspects in the extortion case involving inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid. KPK designated Abdul Wahid’s aide, Marjani (MJN), as a suspect.
“Today, KPK summoned parties in the capacity as witnesses for the new suspect, namely Mr MJN, who is the ADC or aide to the Riau Governor,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Monday (9/3).
KPK has completed the investigation into Abdul Wahid in the alleged extortion case against his subordinates in the UPT of the Riau Public Works Department. Abdul Wahid is set to be tried soon.
“Today, Monday (2/3), the investigation into the alleged criminal corruption case related to extortion in the Riau Provincial Government environment has been declared complete or P21, and transferred to the prosecution stage,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Monday (2/3).
This case originated from a sting operation (OTT) against Riau Governor Abdul Wahid in early November 2025. The case implicating Abdul Wahid relates to alleged demands for fees by Abdul Wahid from his subordinates in the UPT of the Riau Public Works Department.
KPK then named three suspects related to the extortion case in the Riau Provincial Government environment. The three suspects are:
Riau Governor, Abdul Wahid
Head of Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, Muhammad Arief Setiawan
Special Staff to the Riau Governor, Dani M Nursalam
KPK suspects Abdul Wahid of threatening his subordinates if they did not pay the money known as the ‘thug’s share’ worth Rp 7 billion. At least, there were three fee payments for the thug’s share in June, August, and November 2025.
