The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has once again detained former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, or Gus Yaqut, in its detention centre after he was temporarily transferred to house arrest. The detention at the KPK facility took place today because Yaqut must undergo questioning related to the Hajj quota corruption case tomorrow.

“And of course, if there are any questions, why was he transferred or moved back today? First, because tomorrow there is already a scheduled request for information from the individual,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu to reporters at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Asep stated that his side would provide updates on the handling of the Hajj quota case tomorrow. However, he did not explain in detail whether the update relates to the determination of new suspects or other matters.

“Secondly, tomorrow we plan to have progress, yes, related to the handling of this Hajj quota,” he said.

He explained that Yaqut’s detention was only carried out today after waiting for the results of a health assessment test. The health examination of Yaqut was conducted at the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, until this morning.

“Why perhaps the process wasn’t immediate from yesterday and had to wait until today, because of course there are procedures we must follow, namely conducting a health assessment. The health assessment was carried out since yesterday afternoon at the Central Police Hospital in Kramat Jati,” said Asep.

“Why was Kramat Jati chosen? Of course, first because it is close to the residence of Mr YCQ, and also the availability of equipment and expert doctors there,” he added.

For information, Yaqut arrived at the KPK building at 10:32 WIB to undergo detention at the KPK detention centre. Yaqut was wearing an orange detention vest.

“Alhamdulillah, I could pay my respects to my mother, to my mum,” said Yaqut upon arriving at the KPK building.

Yaqut did not provide many comments. He claimed that the transfer of his detention status to house arrest was a request from his family.

“It was our request,” he said.
