KPK Reveals Reason Why Regent of Tulungagung's Brother Not Charged in Extortion of 16 Regional Agencies
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also secured Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro, the brother of Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo, and brought him to Jakarta following a hand-catching operation (OTT) related to the extortion case involving 16 Heads of Regional Device Organisations (OPD) of the Tulungagung Regency Government. The KPK has revealed the reason why Jatmiko was not designated as a suspect.
“Then, what is Brother J’s role? Brother J was examined there and brought here, like that. What seems to be it? So his status is as a witness concerned,” said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, during a press conference in the early hours of Sunday (12/4/2026).
Asep stated that the Tulungagung Regency DPRD member was secured because he was suspected of knowing about the extortion carried out by Regent Gatut. He mentioned that Jatmiko was only secured to further investigate the crimes committed by his brother.
“Investigators suspect that the individual, due to family relations and as an official, knew about these practices. So we want to delve deeper into the individual regarding the practices carried out by GWS,” he said.
Asep stated that the KPK needs to delve deeper into Regent Gatut’s extortion practices because the modus operandi is new. He mentioned that several extortion cases have never been carried out with threats of resignation letters and absolute responsibility letters.
“Because this is, to be honest, new like that. For us too, we just found this. In some OTTs we carried out with the same article, extortion, none like this,” he explained.
“Usually, they ask directly, right? He scares them with rolling, or gives an example first, for instance one OPD head is replaced, thus creating a fear effect on the others, but this is not, this was locked from the start,” he continued.
As is known, the KPK also brought Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo’s brother to Jakarta following the hand-catching operation (OTT). The brother of Regent Gatut brought by the KPK to Jakarta is Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro, who is a member of the Tulungagung Regency DPRD.
“It is true (Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo’s brother, Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro as a Tulungagung DPRD member who was also brought to Jakarta during the OTT),” clarified KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed, on Saturday (11/4).
Jatmiko was one of those brought to Jakarta after the KPK conducted the OTT in Tulungagung Regency. Jatmiko was brought to Jakarta along with his brother, Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo, as well as 11 government employees from the Tulungagung Regency Government.
