The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) has confirmed the involvement of private parties in a sting operation (OTT) conducted in the DKI Jakarta area since Tuesday night. The operation pertains to alleged corruption in the processing of stay permits for foreign nationals (WNA).

In addition to securing private individuals, the KPK task force also arrested an official from the West Jakarta Immigration Office. The private parties caught in the operation are suspected of acting as intermediaries or agents for the processing of Limited Stay Permits (KITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (KITAP).

“For further details, we will provide an update later, as there are private parties involved alongside state officials,” said KPK spokesperson Budi at the KPK Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday. Budi explained that in practice, foreign nationals often use intermediaries to manage residency documents and stay permits in Indonesia. Investigators are currently delving into the extent to which such malpractice occurs within immigration agencies.

“In the process of managing KITAS or KITAP, foreign nationals may use intermediaries. We will explain the legal construction of this case in a future press conference,” Budi added.

At present, the anti-corruption agency is conducting intensive examinations of the parties caught in the undercover operation. The KPK is investigating whether the case falls under the categories of bribery, extortion, or gratification.

In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested. An official announcement regarding suspects and the specific details of the case is scheduled to be delivered via a press conference shortly.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of US dollars, Singapore dollars, and precious metals during the sting operation involving the Head of West Jakarta Immigration, Ronald Arman Abdullah. Dozens of individuals were detained, with the operation extending to Bali and West Java.
