The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, a suspect in the alleged hajj quota corruption case, has undergone medical treatment at the National Police Hospital. “On Monday, 29 June 2026, medical procedures were carried out by a team of doctors,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in Jakarta on Tuesday. Budi stated that investigators are continuously monitoring the health condition of the former Minister of Religious Affairs and hope he recovers soon so that the legal process can proceed.

The KPK initiated the investigation into the alleged corruption of the Indonesian hajj quota for the 2023–2024 period on 9 August 2025. Yaqut and his former special assistant, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, were named as suspects on 9 January 2026. Yaqut was detained at the KPK Detention Centre on 12 March 2026, while Ishfah was detained five days later. Yaqut’s detention status was briefly changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026 following a family request, but he was returned to the KPK detention facility on 24 March 2026. The KPK later named two additional suspects on 30 March 2026: Maktour Operational Director Ismail Adham and former Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Association Asrul Aziz Taba, both of whom were detained on 8 June 2026. The KPK has stated that the alleged corruption resulted in potential state losses amounting to Rp622 billion.
