The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed an alleged attempt to intimidate witnesses in the corruption case involving the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and Blueray Cargo. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the commission regrets the alleged intimidation and urged all parties to cease any efforts to pressure witnesses. “We urge that there be no further attempts at intimidation or intervention against witnesses, or even against the suspects when they are being questioned,” he said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (14/8). The KPK is also coordinating protection measures with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

The case originated from a sting operation, after which the KPK named six suspects. They include Rizal, the Director of Enforcement and Investigation at Customs and Excise; Budiman Bayu Prasojo, Head of the Customs Intelligence Section; and Gatot Heroe Hernanda, Head of the Kediri Customs Office. From the private sector, the suspects are John Field, the owner of Blueray Cargo; Andri, the Head of the Import Documentation Team at Blueray Cargo; and Dedy Kurniawan, the company’s Operational Manager.
