KPK Responds to Request to Summon Jokowi for Hajj Quota Corruption Trial

The Corruption Eradancy Commission (KPK) has responded to a request from the legal team of defendant Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex, to summon the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to testify in the alleged Hajj quota corruption trial. According to the KPK, they will first await the views of the presiding judges.

“We will see what the panel of judges’ view is, because the witnesses presented are intended to assist in providing information for the disclosure or proof of the case currently being tried,” KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists in Jakarta on Friday.

When asked whether the KPK would not rule out summoning Jokowi, Budi stated that the anti-corruption agency is waiting for the developments of the trial. “We will see how the developments unfold,” he said.

Budi repeated a similar statement when asked if the KPK is waiting for an order from the panel of judges to subsequently summon Jokowi to the trial.

“We will see how the developments unfold, because in this case, there are more than 300 people who will be presented by the KPK Public Prosecutor,” he added.
