KPK Responds to Proposal for Special Agency to Manage Seized Assets

Jakarta, VIVA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says it is monitoring proposals for the establishment of a special agency to act as manager of confiscated assets during deliberations of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

“This is still under discussion, and we are monitoring and following it together,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters in Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

Budi further reminded relevant stakeholders to analyse the proposal in terms of its effectiveness. Moreover, the KPK has all along been managing assets seized from corruption cases.

“Certainly it needs to be weighed, analysed and examined as to which is more effective. Whether a new institution is needed or whether we should optimise existing institutions?” he said.

On the other hand, he said the KPK views the deliberation as progress regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

“We need to appreciate and continue supporting this, because it has indeed been a plan for quite a long time, and the KPK from the start, together with several other institutions as well as observers, be they academics, researchers or other parties, has continued to push for asset forfeiture,” he said.

Previously, a number of parties, both in meetings of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and otherwise, voiced proposals for the formation of a special agency to manage confiscated assets.

Among them were the Chair of DPR Commission III Habiburokhman, Deputy Chair of Commission III Ahmad Sahroni, Head of the Indonesian Advocates Association Harry Ponto, and Vice Rector IV of Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta Septa Candra. (Ant)
