KPK Responds to Potential Takeover of Febrie Adriansyah Case from AGO

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to questions regarding the possibility of taking over the investigation into former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah should the case stall at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO).

Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, urged the public to refer to Article 10A of Law Number 19 of 2019. He made this statement after the case was transferred to the AGO by the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor).

Law Number 19 of 2019 regulates the second amendment to Law Number 30 of 2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission. Article 10A stipulates that the KPK has the authority to take over investigations and/or prosecutions of corruption perpetrators currently being handled by the police or the prosecutor’s office.

The KPK can take over a case if the handling process is stalled without justifiable reason, if the process is deemed to protect the actual perpetrator, or if the case itself contains elements of corruption. Other grounds for a takeover include interference from the executive, judiciary, or legislative branches, as well as other circumstances that, according to the police or the AGO, make the case difficult to handle properly and accountably.

Previously, on 6 July 2026, the Kortastipidkor announced an investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering related to the procurement and supply of coal for several steam power plants between 2018 and 2026. Febrie Adriansyah, while still serving as Jampidsus, held a press conference on 10 July 2026, acknowledging that a house in Sentul, Bogor Regency, West Java, searched by Kortastipidkor, belonged to him.

In the early hours of 11 July 2026, the AGO announced that Febrie Adriansyah had resigned from his position as Jampidsus, and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin had accepted the resignation. Later that afternoon, Kortastipidkor named two suspects in connection with three cases, one of whom was Febrie Adriansyah. The police also announced their decision to transfer the handling of the case to the AGO.
