KPK Reschedules Witness Interrogations Due to Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has rescheduled the examination of witnesses in several corruption investigations due to the impact of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that one of the witnesses is the Chairman of the West Lombok Regency General Elections Commission, Lalu Rudi Iskandar, who was scheduled to be interrogated at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on 7 September 2026.
“The witness is unable to attend the summons because of flight disruptions to Jakarta caused by volcanic ash from the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption,” Budi told journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Previously, Mount Anak Krakatau erupted on 5 September 2026. As a result of the eruption, volcanic ash has spread to various areas around Mount Krakatau, affecting numerous flights.
Meanwhile, the corruption case in West Lombok originated when the KPK conducted a sting operation against the Regent, Lalu Ahmad Zaini, also known as LAZ, on 20 July 2026. On 21 July 2026, the KPK named Lalu Ahmad Zaini and the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang Sudirman as suspects in an alleged conflict of interest regarding the procurement of goods and services.
The KPK also named both individuals, along with the President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument, Alvonsus Gani, as suspects in an alleged bribery scheme within the West Lombok Regency Government.
The KPK suspects that LAZ received up to Rp12.4 billion from these corrupt practices. This sum consists of Rp10.8 billion from the alleged conflict of interest in procurement, and Rp1.6 billion in bribes following the selection of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument to undertake projects within the West Lombok Regency Government.
