The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has temporarily rescheduled the examination of former Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi for next week, specifically between March 2nd and 6th, 2026.

“For the time being, the examination has been confirmed to take place next week,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 26th).

Budi stated that the KPK has requested Budi Karya Sumadi to cooperate and attend the rescheduled examination.

He also urged the former Minister to provide the necessary information to the KPK investigators when he attends the summons.

“This will effectively help to clarify the case,” he said.

Previously, the case emerged from a sting operation conducted by the KPK on April 11th, 2023, at the Class I Railway Technical Center for the Central Java Region of the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation.

Currently, the Class I Railway Technical Center for the Central Java Region has been renamed the Class I Semarang Railway Technical Center.

The KPK then named 10 suspects who were immediately detained in connection with the alleged corruption case involving the construction and maintenance of railway lines in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.

After some time, or until January 20th, 2026, the KPK had named and detained a total of 21 suspects. The KPK had also named two corporations as suspects in the case.

The alleged corruption occurred in the construction of the Solo Balapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso double-track railway project; the construction of a railway line in Makassar, South Sulawesi; four railway construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampegan Cianjur, West Java; and the repair of level crossings in Java-Sumatra.

In the construction and maintenance of these projects, it is suspected that there was manipulation of the project implementers by certain parties through collusion from the administrative process to the determination of the tender winner.

Budi Karya Sumadi had previously been examined by the KPK in this case. He was last examined by the KPK as a witness in the alleged corruption case at the DJKA on July 26th, 2023.

On February 18th, 2026, the KPK again summoned Budi Karya Sumadi. However, he was unable to attend the summons due to a scheduling conflict. (Ant/P-3)
