KPK Requires Rp2.22 Trillion to Combat Corruption in 2027
Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has approved a proposed budget increase for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Rp774.31 billion for 2027 to support anti-corruption duties. The approval was announced during a meeting between Commission III and the KPK at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9). With this addition, the KPK’s budget ceiling for 2027 will rise to approximately Rp2.22 trillion from the previous estimate of around Rp1.45 trillion.
KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated that the current budget ceiling for next year, set at Rp1.44 trillion, is insufficient to meet the agency’s entire requirements. “In order to implement national priority outputs in achieving the 2027 Government Work Plan (RKP) and to carry out the KPK’s duties and functions as mandated by Law Number 19 of 2019, we are proposing an additional budget ceiling for the 2027 fiscal year of Rp774.31 billion,” he said.
Setyo noted that based on a joint letter from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Development Planning dated 5 August 202ng, the KPK’s budget ceiling for 2027 was initially set at Rp1.447 trillion. This figure represents a decrease of approximately Rp134 billion, or 8.4%, compared to the 2026 Budget Implementation List (DIPA), which reached around Rp1.58 trillion.
“The deepest reductions occurred in coordination and supervision by 76.8%, education and community participation by 57.6%, and prevention and monitoring by 33.1%,” he added.
According to Setyo, the budget reduction poses a risk to the reach of anti-corruption efforts, prompting the KPK to propose the additional Rp774.31 billion. Of the total proposed increase, approximately Rp682.65 billion is allocated for the execution of KPK duties, while around Rp91.66 billion is intended to support national priorities and the fulfilment of national development indicator data.
Regarding the support for KPK duties, the largest portion of the additional budget is allocated to information and data activities at Rp314.39 billion, followed by management support at Rp154.18 billion. Setyo stated that these funds are necessary to ensure the continuity of technology used in fighting corruption, integrated digital-based anti-corruption system services, and office operations.
Furthermore, an additional Rp61 billion is allocated for enforcement and execution activities, Rp57.39 billion for coordination and supervision, Rp56.99 billion for education and community participation, and Rp36.68 billion for prevention and monitoring.
“All of this is required to improve KPK’s performance, particularly in closing corruption vulnerabilities, encouraging improvements in public service governance, and monitoring LHKPN (Wealth Reports) and gratifications,” said Setyo.
He warned that if the additional budget requirements are not met, corruption prevention and eradication efforts could be impacted, as limited funding narrows the KPK’s reach in performing its duties and functions. “This budget allocation is crucial in determining how far the KPK can be present and impactful within society,” he concluded.
At the end of the meeting, Commission III of the DPR approved the proposed budget increase and the programmes submitted by the KPK, bringing the KPK’s budget ceiling for 2027 to Rp2,222,100,661,000.
