KPK Reportedly Arrests BNPB Official

Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have reportedly carried out a sting operation involving an official at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

“Sting operation involving a BNPB official,” a source at the KPK told CNNIndonesia.com on Tuesday (13 October).

It is not yet known which official was arrested or what case the operation is related to.

KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto confirmed that an arrest operation had taken place.

“It is true that KPK staff conducted a field operation,” Setyo said when contacted.

BNPB’s Head of Disaster Data, Information and Communication, Berton Panjaitan, meanwhile, said he was not yet aware of reports of the arrest.

“We have not monitored it,” Berton said in a text message to CNNIndonesia.com.
