KPK refers two cases involving suspended Pati Regent Sudewo to prosecution

Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has forwarded two case dossiers involving the alleged corruption of the suspended Pati Regent Sudewo to the indictment stage. Sudewo is a suspect in two cases: the alleged extortion over filling village official positions and the alleged receipt of fees related to a railway line construction and maintenance project within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transport. ‘This marks the transfer from the investigation stage to the indictment stage. So, there are two investigation files, one for the DJKA case and one for the Pati case,’ KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (19 May 2026). Budi noted that under the newly revised Indonesian Code of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP), Public Prosecutors can consolidate several indictments across multiple investigation files. Previously, KPK had named Bupati Pati Sudewo as a suspect in two corruption cases simultaneously. In addition to the extortion case over village official appointments, Sudewo was also named a suspect in a bribery case over the railway project in the DJKA of the Ministry of Transport. ‘Indeed, this is the entry point and also that for the DJKA matter, today we have also elevated it to the investigation stage, so, simultaneously. Yes (Sudewo has been named a suspect),’ said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at a press conference, on Tuesday (20 January 2026). In the bribery case, KPK suspects Sudewo received a flow of commitment fees in the corruption case concerning the railway project in DJKA of the Ministry of Transport. Budi said the funds were allegedly obtained by Sudewo while he was still a member of the DPR. He confirmed investigators would probe information related to the alleged bribery during the investigation into the Pati Regent. ‘Certainly, based on this information investigators will delve deeper, and we will update the investigation process regarding Mr. SDW accordingly,’ he said. Budi noted that all information and statements obtained will be examined by KPK as the case continues to unfold. According to Kompas.com records, Sudewo was last questioned as a witness in the bribery case regarding the railway project at DJKA on 22 September 2025.
