KPK Receives Attorney General's Office Supervision Request for Febrie Adriansyah Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially received a supervision letter from the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) concerning the handling of the alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah.
KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained that the supervision letter was drawn up by Acting Jampidsus Rudi Margono, not by the newly appointed definitive Jampidsus, Kuntadi.
“At the moment, the KPK has indeed received the request letter, but that letter was made at the time by the Acting Jampidsus for supervision purposes,” said Setyo after attending a discussion on strengthening integrity and corruption prevention in regional governance at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Jakarta on Friday (24/7).
Setyo said the KPK’s Deputy for Coordination and Supervision has followed up on the supervision request letter. For now, the KPK is still at an early stage, namely coordination.
“Nevertheless, this is still temporary as we have only carried out coordination. Why coordination? There will be subsequent stages in accordance with the applicable regulations at the Corruption Eradication Commission, and detailed discussions within the scope of supervision will then be conducted,” he said.
The retired three-star police general explained that personnel from the KPK’s Deputy for Coordination and Supervision would later be intensively involved, including communicating with Team 9 or the investigators handling the alleged corruption case against Febrie.
“Once supervision is under way, the involvement of personnel or staff within the Coordination and Supervision Deputy’s work unit will be more specific and clear, and the frequency of their meetings with Team 9 or the investigators appointed by the Special Crimes unit will also increase,” he said.
“Today, since last night, Director 3 of the Coordination and Supervision Deputy has reported to me that there was a request, and from as early as 08:30 this morning they have been on standby there. The latest information is that there is activity there being carried out by the coordination and supervision team,” Setyo continued.
KPK personnel’s authority
On that occasion, Setyo stressed that this supervision does not mean KPK personnel may interrogate the parties connected to the alleged corruption case.
Interrogation is the authority of investigators acting under orders issued by the Attorney General or the Jampidsus.
“It must be limited, yes — not involvement in interrogations, while we are still conducting semi-supervisory coordination. So we cannot then take part in questioning. Interrogation is an authority regulated by law and carried out by investigators who have received a decree or order letter from the Attorney General or the Jampidsus,” Setyo explained.
Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon, Febrie was questioned by Jampidsus investigators at the Attorney General’s Office headquarters in South Jakarta. Febrie arrived at around 13:00 WIB, having failed to appear at a previous summons on Wednesday (22/7).
