KPK Ready to Take Over Former Jampidsus Case if Handling Stalls

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened the possibility of taking over the alleged coal corruption case implicating the former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). This step will be taken if the handling of the case is deemed to have stalled or shows no progress. KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, explained that this authority is regulated in Article 10A paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK. The regulation contains six criteria that allow the anti-corruption agency to supervise and take over cases from other law enforcement agencies. “In paragraph two, there are six criteria, one example is if the case is stalled, going back and forth without progress,” Asep said. However, Asep stressed that the legal process, including investigations and searches, is still ongoing. He stated that the KPK cannot take over a case based solely on assumptions or public concerns about the involvement of certain parties. He urged all parties to respect the process being carried out by law enforcement officials, including the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Attorney General’s Office. The investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering involving state-owned enterprises such as PT PLN, PT Asabri, and PT Krakatau Steel is currently underway. Investigators have searched 12 locations, including a private residence in Sentul, Bogor, acknowledged as the home of the former Jampidsus, Febrie Adriansyah, where cash and gold bars were found.
