KPK Re-examines Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut as Hajj Quota Corruption Suspect

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) re-examined former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the 2023-2024 Hajj quota corruption case on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

“Today, investigators have also scheduled an examination of YCQ as a suspect in this case,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement on Tuesday. During the interrogation, the KPK is delving into the roles played by several parties in the alleged corruption involving the Hajj quota for the 2023-2024 period.

“Investigators are examining the roles performed by these suspects in relation to the mechanism of the Hajj pilgrimage administration,” Budi said in his statement.

Following the examination, Yaqut remained tight-lipped. “Regarding the details, please ask the investigators, not me. I am tired. I need to rest,” Yaqut remarked at the time.

He has been detained at the KPK detention centre since 12 March 2026, following his designation as a suspect. He is facing charges related to the alleged corruption of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota, which involves estimated state losses of Rp 622 billion.
