KPK Raises Proposed Additional Budget for 2027 to IDR 989 Billion

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has raised its proposed additional budget for 2027 to IDR 989 billion, up from an initial request of IDR 762.30 billion. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated that the commission had received an indicative ceiling of IDR 1.23 trillion for 2027. He initially proposed an additional IDR 762 billion, referencing President Prabowo Subianto’s statement during a free nutritious meal programme consolidation event in Sentul on 3 June, where the President said ‘whatever is needed will be given.’

During a working meeting at the DPR complex on Wednesday (17/6/2026), House of Representatives Commission III Deputy Chairman Ahmad Sahroni urged the KPK to request a larger sum, suggesting IDR 5 trillion. ‘Since the President has already spoken, if you put it in your presentation, you can ask for anything. Ask for IDR 5 trillion! If the President doesn’t give it, we’ll just play the video again later. So that the President gives KPK a budget equivalent to the Attorney General’s Office. Do we all agree?’ Sahroni said.

Commission III member Hasbiallah Ilyas also supported increasing the KPK’s budget, particularly highlighting the need for more funding in education and prevention. He noted that the current education budget of only IDR 73.66 billion was insufficient to eliminate or prevent corruption. Fellow Commission III member Martin Tumbelaka from the Gerindra Party also pledged full support for the budget increase to maximise enforcement efforts in the field.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained that the commission aspires to establish regional representative offices to enhance prevention efforts, noting that unlike the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) which has provincial and municipal offices, the KPK operates solely from the central level with around 1,900 employees. He said regional offices would allow for more efficient coordination, supervision, and prevention work, particularly in central and eastern Indonesia, enabling faster and more streamlined bureaucratic access.

Following the strong support from Commission III members, Setyo consulted with the KPK Secretary General and Finance Bureau and revised the proposed additional budget upward from IDR 762 billion to IDR 999 billion. He then adjusted the final figure to IDR 989 billion, which was accepted by Deputy Chairman Sahroni, who remarked that it was the first time the commission had been so enthusiastic about the KPK requesting a larger budget.
