The KPK carried out a series of searches related to the extortion case involving Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW). The KPK searched the regent’s official residence, his private home, and the home of his aide.

“Today, investigators began a series of search activities in the Tulungagung area. The first day’s searches were conducted at three locations: the regent’s official residence, the private home of Mr GSW (Gatut Sunu Wibowo), and the home of Mr YOG (Dwi Yoga Ambal),” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Thursday (16/4/2026).

During the searches, the KPK found several documents, including a resignation statement for other OPD heads prepared without a date.

“This resignation statement is suspected to have been used as a ‘tool of pressure’ by the regent on the OPDs to ensure obedience to all his orders,” he added.

The searches were conducted to gather additional evidence in the case implicating Gatut Sunu. The KPK expressed thanks to the Tulungagung community for supporting the investigation.

“We will continue to update on developments and the results of the searches,” he stated.

Previously, the KPK stated that Gatut Sunu extorted his subordinates with threats of resignation letters. After the appointment of the OPD heads, they were called to a special room to sign statements resigning from their positions if unable to carry out assigned duties.

“So this is related to the appointment of the OPD officials. After the appointment, Mr GSW asked the officials to sign resignation statements from their positions and from the civil service if they were unable to carry out their duties and responsibilities. So, shortly after being sworn in, they were called in one by one,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday (12/4).

The submitted letters already contained statements that the OPD heads would resign from their positions and civil service if unable to perform their duties and responsibilities. The letters were stamped but the date column was left blank.

The OPD heads were asked to sign two letters. They were prohibited from bringing mobile phones, making it difficult to secure evidence.

Gatut set an extortion target of up to Rp 5 billion. However, until his arrest, Regent Gatut only managed to collect Rp 2.7 billion.

There were 16 department heads in the Tulungagung Regency administration who were asked for contribution payments. The amounts demanded ranged from Rp 15 million to Rp 2.8 billion.
