The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized a number of documents and electronic evidence during searches at three locations in Bali, linked to the ongoing investigation into alleged extortion of residence permits for foreign nationals and/or the acceptance of gratuities within the Directorate General of Immigration from 2022 to 2026. The searches were conducted over three days from 17 to 19 June. The three locations were the offices of PT. Visa Empat Bali, CV. Visa Agung Bali Teratai Promanende, and the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office. “During the search, investigators seized a quantity of electronic evidence and documents,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo on Saturday (20/6). Budi stated that the evidence would be analysed to further illuminate the case, which has implicated former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim as a suspect. “The seized evidence will subsequently be analysed by investigators to bring clarity to this case, in accordance with the elements of Article 12e and Article 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law,” he said. On Friday (19/6), the KPK examined Silmy Karim to deepen the evidence regarding the alleged extortion and gratuity acceptance. Silmy offered no comment on the case ensnaring him. A total of eight individuals have been named as suspects by the KPK in the case of alleged extortion related to foreign nationals’ residence permits and/or the acceptance of gratuities within the Directorate General of Immigration from 2022 to 2026. They are Silmy Karim; Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam; Director of Residence Permits, Jaya Saputra; Sub-directorate Heads at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo and Tessar Bayu Setyaji; Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office for 2024-2025 and Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah; Head of the Limited Stay Permit Status Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi; and Staff of the Residence Permit Sub-directorate, Gusti Bernardiansyah. They have been detained at the KPK State Detention Centre. The suspects are charged with violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of the Law on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. This case was uncovered by the KPK through a Sting Operation on 2-3 June 2026. At that time, the KPK arrested 18 individuals, one of whom, Silmy Karim, surrendered himself. The KPK also discovered and secured a quantity of evidence suspected to be related to or the proceeds of criminal acts of corruption, with a total value reaching Rp17.5 billion in various forms of evidence, including 7 cars, 15 motorcycles, 11 bicycles, balances in bank accounts and crypto asset accounts, as well as a quantity of foreign currency.
