JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is pushing for strengthened corruption prevention efforts through the strategic role of Regional People’s Representative Councils (DPRD) throughout Indonesia.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto conveyed this as a speaker at the Regional Leadership Enhancement Course (KPPD) organised by the Indonesian National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) at the Military Academy in Magelang on Friday (17/4/2026).

“If all of you agree to do this together, I am confident that the number of enforcement cases will decrease further,” Setyo stated in his remarks on Saturday (18/4/2026).

Through this role, DPRD is seen as the frontline in building transparent and accountable systems.

According to Setyo, strengthening corruption prevention systems at the local level remains a key task that must continue to be pursued.

This includes developing governance based on integrity to minimise the potential for deviations.

“Corruption is not just a crime, but it steals the future and the rights of our children and grandchildren,” he said.

Setyo added that integrity is not only related to moral aspects but also a crucial factor in enhancing regional competitiveness, including attracting investments and driving economic growth.

The KPPD event, running from 15-19 April 2026, is attended by DPRD chairmen from across Indonesia.

The programme aims to strengthen local leadership capacities to effectively carry out oversight functions and guide public policies optimally.
